Join us on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, in Saint-Tropez for the 13th edition of the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy. Once again, the Centenary Trophy will be the must-attend event for centenary yachts during the traditional challenge day of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Onshore, the Gstaad Yacht Club will honour Switzerland at the Place des Lices on Wednesday, October 2, with the “Swiss Night.”
The Centenarians Regatta
While the event shines with the elegance and class of its sailing yachts, it is above all a sporting event that attracts more and more competitors each year. Over the years, the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy has become “the race” that is essential for all crews sailing on these magnificent centenary yachts. Its unique “Pursuit Race” format—boats start according to their rating, and the first to cross the finish line is the winner—is highly appreciated by all owners who return every year with great pleasure to participate in the Centenary Trophy. For these legendary centenary boats, the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy is the highlight of this week in Saint-Tropez.

Organized with the race committee of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, the Centenary Trophy brings together boats over 100 years old every year. This event, on challenge day, is always a very beautiful regatta on the water,” said Pierre Roinson, President of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez.

Swiss Crew Night!
For the second year, the Gstaad Yacht Club also offers all competitors festive and fun activities onshore to make the Centenary Trophy enjoyable. On the agenda, a Swiss evening at Place des Lices in Saint-Tropez on Wednesday, where all sailors will have the chance to taste Alpine specialties and participate in very Swiss activities, including a “cow milking” competition where two sailors from each participating crew will be tested, as well as a unique roller-ski race.
The Centenarian Award
The “Centenarian Award” of the year, organized by Classic Boat magazine and the Gstaad Yacht Club, was created in 2017. All boats 100 years and older that are still sailing are eligible. Each boat must have accomplished something significant in the past year, such as a long cruise, a race victory, a major restoration, or any other remarkable event. The winner is announced at the annual Classic Boat Awards ceremony held at the Royal Thames Yacht Club in London. The winner receives a sterling silver cup offered by Robbe & Berking. The cup, crafted in the Bauhaus style (1919-1933), embodies simplicity expressed through precious materials with a clean and modern aesthetic. The 2023 winner is Barbara (1923), designed in
1923 by Charles Ernest Nicholson and built at Camper & Nicholsons shipyard in Gosport, UK, currently sailing under the Italian flag.

The Centenary Trophy, awarded each year during the Trophy Giving Owners dinner, is also a centenarian, created by Wakely and Wheeler in London in 1911, exactly 100 years before the first edition of the regatta.

The Gstaad Yacht Club
The Gstaad Yacht Club (GYC) was founded in 1998 by a group of sailing enthusiasts with the vision of creating “a unique, global yacht club off the water, instead of another local club on the water”. Located in the Swiss Alpes, and initially often met with astonishment, the Gstaad Yacht Club has developed into a club with 400 members from over 40 different countries and a place where members and their guests enjoy meeting. The network of reciprocal clubs has extended over all continents.
The GYC supports sailing projects at all levels, from juniors to professional sailors, and has become a permanent fixture on the Swiss sailing scene, particularly in Olympic sailing and classic yachting.
Since 2011, topics relating to the protection of the oceans and waters as well as other topics relating to sustainability and the well-being of our environment have been an integral part of club life, enriched by collaborations and events such as with Sylvia Earle, the Blue Marine Foundation and IUCN Ocean Ambassador William Winram.
Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez
Founded in 1862, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez has been organizing regattas for over 160 years. Some of its members have left an indelible mark, such as Guy de Maupassant in 1887 and Paul Signac in 1897 (President of the SNST from 1908 to 1911), who are among the pioneers of French yachting. Affiliated with the FFVoile and an allied club of the Yacht Club de France, the SNST has continued to grow with the motto of always being open
to modernity and new ideas while respecting tradition. With a team of enthusiasts, including 15 board members, 3 permanent staff, 500 members, and many volunteers, the club organizes major events such as Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, the ArMeN Festival, Les Dames de Saint-Tropez, Les Voiles d’automne, and the Paprec 600 Saint-Tropez offshore race, and co-organizes other events like the Loro Piana Giraglia in Saint-Tropez. The SNST hosts exceptional events, including various world championships and since 2021, the French leg of the Sail GP, as well as a leg of the 52 Super Series circuit for the TP 52, which will return to Saint-Tropez in 2025. The Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez is the supporting club of the French Orient Express Team for the 37th America’s Cup, which will take place in September and October 2024 in Barcelona.

Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy 2024: Rendez-vous le 3 octobre 2024 pour la 13ème édition
Rendez-vous le jeudi 3 octobre 2024 à Saint-Tropez pour la 13ème édition du Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy. Une nouvelle fois, le Centenary Trophy sera le rendez-vous incontournable pour les yachts centenaires lors de la traditionnelle journée des défis des Voiles de Saint-Tropez.
A terre, le Gstaad Yacht Club mettra la Suisse à l’honneur, place des Lices, le mercredi 2 octobre pour la « Swiss night ».
La régates des centenaires
Si l’événement brille par l’élégance et la classe de ses voiliers, il est avant tout sportif et attire chaque année de plus en plus de concurrents. Au fil des ans, le Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy est devenu « La course » incontournable pour tous les équipages naviguant sur ces magnifiques yachts centenaires. Son format unique de « Poursuit Race » – les bateaux franchissent la ligne de départ en fonction de leur rating, le premier à franchir la ligne d’arrivée est le vainqueur – est très apprécié de tous les propriétaires qui reviennent tous les ans avec grand plaisir pour participer au Centenary Trophy. Pour les bateaux de légende centenaires, le Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy est le point d’orgue de cette semaine Tropézienne.

La « Swiss night » pour les équipiers !
Pour la deuxième année, Le Gstaad Yacht Club offre également à tous les concurrents des animations festives et ludiques à terre, pour que le Centenary Trophy soit aussi amusant. Au programme, une soirée suisse, place des Lices à St Tropez, le mercredi, où tous les marins auront l’occasion de goûter aux spécialités des Alpes, mais aussi de se confronter dans des activités très suisse… une compétition de « traite de vaches » où deux marins de chaque équipage participant seront mis à l’épreuve mais aussi une course inédite de ski à roulette….
Le « Centenarian Award »
Le prix du centenaire « Centenarian Award » de l’année, organisé par le magazine Classic Boat et le Gstaad Yacht Club, a été créé en 2017. Tous les bateaux de 100 ans et plus, qui naviguent encore sont éligibles. Chaque bateau doit avoir réalisé quelque chose d’important au cours de l’année écoulée, qu’il s’agisse d’une longue croisière, d’une victoire en course, d’une restauration majeure ou de tout autre événement remarquable
Le gagnant est annoncé lors de la cérémonie annuelle des Classic Boat Awards, qui se tient au Royal Thames Yacht Club de Londres, le vainqueur reçoit une coupe en argent Sterling, offert par Robbe & Berking. La coupe, réalisée dans le style Bauhaus (1919-1933), incarne une simplicité exprimée par des matériaux précieux avec une esthétique épurée et moderne.
Le vainqueur de l’édition 2023 est Barbara (1923), conçu en 1923 par Charles Ernest Nicholson et construit au chantier naval Camper & Nicholsons de Gosport, au Royaume-Uni, il navigue actuellement sous pavillon italien.

Gstaad Yacht Club
Le Gstaad Yacht Club a été fondé en 1998 par un groupe de marin passionné avec pour mission de « créer un yacht club unique et global loin de l’eau et non pas un autre yacht club local près de la mer ». Situé dans les Alpes suisses et souvent accueilli avec étonnement au départ, le Gstaad Yacht Club s’est transformé en un club comptant 400 membres originaires de plus de 40 pays différents et en un lieu où les membres et leurs invités aiment se retrouver. La Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez
Fondée en 1862, la Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez organise des régates depuis plus de 160 ans. Certains de ses membres ont laissé une trace impérissable à l’image de Guy de Maupassant en 1887 et Paul Signac en 1897 (Président de la SNST de 1908 à 1911) qui font partie des pionniers de la plaisance française. Affiliée à la FFVoile et Club allié du Yacht Club de France, la SNST n’a cessé de s’agrandir avec comme leitmotiv de toujours être ouverte à la modernité et aux nouveautés tout en respectant la tradition. Fort d’une équipe de passionnés dont 15 membres du Conseil d’Administration, 3 permanents, 500 membres et de nombreux bénévoles, le Club organise de grandes épreuves dont les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, le Festival ArMeN, les Dames de Saint-Tropez, les Voiles d’automne ou la course au large Paprec 600 Saint-Tropez et co-organise d’autres épreuves comme la Loro Piana Giraglia à Saint-Tropez. La SNST accueille notamment des événements exceptionnels comme différents championnats du monde et depuis 2021 l’étape française de Sail GP, ainsi qu’une étape du 52 Super Series circuit des TP 52 qui reviendra à St Tropez en 2025.
