The Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy Returns for its 14th Edition
The Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy returns on Thursday, October 2 for its 14th edition, as part of the Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Nearly twenty centenarian yachts are expected to take part in this one-of-a-kind regatta, exclusively open to yachts that are over 100 years old – a true tribute to elegance.
On the eve of the race, Wednesday, October 1, the Gstaad Yacht Club will also kick off the festivities on land with “Swiss Night”, held for the third consecutive year at the Place des Lices, bringing the spirit and colours of Switzerland to the heart of Saint-Tropez.
Since 2011, the Gstaad Yacht Club, in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, has organized the Centenary Trophy, which takes place every Thursday during the traditional challenge day at Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. In just a few years, the event has become the must-attend regatta for centenarian yachts.
The Centenary Trophy follows the “pursuit race” format: yachts start at staggered times based on their rating, and the first to cross the finish line, off the Tour du Portalet, is declared the winner. This format allows all competitors to race on an equal footing and guarantees suspense right up to the finish line.
“The Centenary Trophy is the flagship event of our club, and we are very grateful to have the opportunity, in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, to organize this unique race each year within the Voiles de Saint-Tropez. The Centenary Trophy has become one of the most prestigious regattas for classic yachts, and we are fortunate that the number of eligible yachts continues to grow naturally each year. In 2025, we’ll reach the centenary of yachts built in 1925 and the following years, a period when yacht building experienced a spectacular boom after World War I. We expect the number of participants to continue rising in the coming years, and we’re already looking forward to the 15th anniversary of the Centenary Trophy next year,”

First-Time Participants
Three yachts will take part for the first time in 2025:
- Leonore, celebrating her 100th birthday this year, will be racing in her first Centenary Trophy! Built in 1925 by Norwegian naval architect Johan Anker, this 49-foot Q-Class Bermudian sloop gained recognition for her racing performance, winning many prestigious competitions. Known previously as Cotton Blossom II, Leonore was fully restored by Dennis Conner, former America’s Cup winner.
- Black Swan, a 40.2-meter yacht from 1899, was designed by Charles E. Nicholson and built by the British shipyard Camper & Nicholsons in Gosport. She is equipped with a two-masted gaff rig.
- Cariad, built in 1896 by Summers & Payne in Southampton and designed by Arthur Payne, is a gaff-rigged ketch that epitomizes the elegance and craftsmanship of the late 19th century.
Previous Winners
- Oriole (1905), winner in 2015 and 2024, will line up for the eighth time at the Centenary Trophy. Designed by Herreshoff, the yacht and her crew are once again aiming for victory!
- The triple winner Olympian (1913), a P-Class yacht and champion in 2014, 2019, and 2021, will compete for the tenth time, hoping to claim a fourth title.
- The NY50 Spartan (1913), double winner in 2016 and 2023, is returning to Saint-Tropez this year, aiming for a third win.

Chips (1913), Corinthian (1911), Dione (1912), Joyant (1911), Kismet (1908), Mariska (1908), Nin (1913), Sky (1890), Sumurun (1914), Thea (1918), The Lady Anne (1912), Veronique (1907), and Viola (1908) – all confirmed for the Centenary Trophy.
Before the Race: “Swiss Night” Returns!
For the third year, the Gstaad Yacht Club will celebrate Switzerland at Place des Lices in Saint-Tropez, on Wednesday, October 1. Expect tastings of Alpine specialties, cow milking demonstrations, and a roller ski race – competitors are invited to enjoy a fun-filled, 100% Swiss evening!

Gstaad Yacht Club
The Gstaad Yacht Club (GYC) was founded in 1998 by a group of sailing enthusiasts with the vision of creating “a unique, global yacht club off the water, instead of another local club on the water”. Located in the Swiss Alpes, and initially often met with astonishment, the Gstaad Yacht Club has developed into a club with 400 members from over 40 different countries and a place where members and their guests enjoy meeting. The annual events calendar hosts a variety of social, sport and sailing events organized by a passionate crew of three together with 10 volunteering Board and Committee members is organizing up to 90 event occasion days per year. The network of reciprocal clubs has extended over all continents.
The Gstaad Yacht Club supports sailing projects at all levels, from juniors to professional sailors, and has become a permanent fixture on the Swiss sailing scene, particularly in Olympic sailing and classic yachting.
Since 2011, topics relating to the protection of the oceans and waters as well as other themes relating to sustainability and the well-being of our environment have been an integral part of club life, enriched by collaborations and events such as with Sylvia Earle, the Blue Marine Foundation, IUCN Ocean Ambassador William Winram and the Gstaad Cultural Encounters.
Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez
Founded in 1862, the SNST has been organizing regattas for over 160 years. Legendary figures like Guy de Maupassant (1887) and Paul Signac (1897, President from 1908 to 1911) were early pioneers of French yachting and members of the club.
Affiliated with FFVoile and a partner of the Yacht Club de France, the SNST continues to evolve while honoring tradition.
With a passionate team of 15 board members, 3 permanent staff, 500 members, and many volunteers, the club organizes major events such as Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, Festival ArMeN, Dames de Saint-Tropez, Les Voiles d’Automne, Paprec 600 Saint-Tropez, and co-hosts the Loro Piana Giraglia in Saint-Tropez.
It also welcomes high-profile events including various World and European Championships, the Sail GP French stop since 2021, the 52 Super Series, the Nations Trophy with Club Swan Racing, and in 2025, a Dragon class regatta for the Marblehead Trophy.

Le Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy revient pour sa 14ᵉ édition
Le Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy revient le jeudi 2 octobre pour sa 14ᵉ édition, dans le cadre des Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Près de vingt yachts centenaires sont attendus pour cette régate unique au monde réservée aux yachts centenaires, véritable hommage à l’élégance.
La veille, mercredi 1er octobre, le Gstaad Yacht Club lancera également les festivités à terre avec la « Swiss Night », organisée pour la troisième année sur la place des Lices, afin de partager l’esprit et les couleurs de la Suisse au cœur de Saint-Tropez.
Depuis 2011, le Gstaad Yacht Club, en collaboration avec la Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, organise le Centenary Trophy, qui se tient chaque jeudi lors de la traditionnelle journée des défis des Voiles de Saint-Tropez. En quelques années, cette épreuve s’est imposée comme la régate incontournable pour les yachts centenaires.
Le Centenary Trophy se dispute selon le format de la « pursuit race » : les yachts s’élancent de manière décalée en fonction de leur rating, et le premier à franchir la ligne d’arrivée, en face de la Tour du Portalet, est déclaré vainqueur. Ce principe offre une compétition permet aux concurrents de régater sur un pied d’égalité et un suspense garanti jusqu’au franchissement de la ligne d’arrivée.
« Le Centenary Trophy est l’événement phare de notre club et nous sommes très reconnaissants d’avoir la possibilité, en collaboration avec la Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, d’organiser chaque année cette course unique dans le cadre des Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Le Centenary Trophy est devenu l’une des régates les plus prestigieuses pour les yachts classiques et nous avons la chance que le nombre de yachts qualifiés augmente naturellement d’année en année. En 2025, nous atteindrons le centenaire de la construction des bateaux de 1925 et des années suivantes, lorsque la construction navale a connu un essor spectaculaire après la Première Guerre mondiale. Une première participation
Ils seront trois à prendre le départ pour la première fois en 2025 :
Leonore fête cette année ses 100 ans et sa première participation au Centenary Trophy ! Construit en 1925 par l’architecte naval norvégien Johan Anker, ce sloop bermudien de 49 pieds de type Q-Class s’est illustré par ses performances en régates, remportant de nombreuses compétitions prestigieuses. Sous le nom de Cotton Blossom II, Leonore a été entièrement restauré par Dennis Conner, ancien vainqueur de la Coupe de l’America.
Black Swan, yacht de 1899, a été conçu par Charles E. Nicholson et construit par le chantier britannique Camper & Nicholsons à Gosport. Il mesure 40,2 mètres de long et est équipé d’un gréement aurique à deux mâts.
Cariad, construit en 1896 par le chantier britannique Summers & Payne à Southampton et conçu par Arthur Payne, est un ketch à gréement aurique qui incarne l’élégance et le savoir-faire de la fin du XIXᵉ siècle.
Des anciens vainqueurs
Oriole (1905), vainqueur en 2015 et 2024, prendra le départ pour la huitième fois du Centenary Trophy. Le plan Herreshoff et son équipage visent une nouvelle fois la victoire !
Le triple vainqueur (2014, 2019, 2021) du Yacht Club Centenary Trophy, le Class P Olympian (1913), sera sur la ligne de départ pour la dixième fois, avec l’ambition de décrocher un quatrième titre.
Double vainqueur en 2016 et 2023, le NY50 Spartan (1913) revient cette année à Saint-Tropez et espère inscrire son nom au palmarès pour la troisième fois.
Chips (1913), Corinthian (1911), Dione (1912), Joyant (1911), Kismet (1908), Mariska (1908), Nin (1913), Sky (1890), Sumurun (1914), Thea (1918), The Lady Anne (1912), Veronique (1907) et Viola (1908) ont également leur participation pour le Centenary Trophy.
Avant la compétition, place à La « Swiss night » !
Pour la troisième année, le Gstaad Yacht Club célèbre la Suisse sur la Place des Lices à Saint-Tropez, le mercredi 1er octobre. Dégustations de spécialités alpines, traite de vaches et course de ski à roulettes… les concurrents sont invités à vivre un moment festif et 100 % suisse !

Gstaad Yacht Club
Le Gstaad Yacht Club a été fondé en 1998 par un groupe de marin passionné avec pour mission de « créer un yacht club unique et global loin de l’eau et non pas un autre yacht club local près de la mer ». Situé dans les Alpes suisses et souvent accueilli avec étonnement au départ, le Gstaad Yacht Club s’est transformé en un club comptant 400 membres originaires de plus de 40 pays différents et en un lieu où les membres et leurs invités aiment se retrouver. La Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez
Fondée en 1862, la Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez organise des régates depuis plus de 160 ans. Certains de ses membres ont laissé une trace impérissable à l’image de Guy de Maupassant en 1887 et Paul Signac en 1897 (Président de la SNST de 1908 à 1911) qui font partie des pionniers de la plaisance française. Affiliée à la FFVoile et Club allié du Yacht Club de France, la SNST n’a cessé de s’agrandir avec comme leitmotiv de toujours être ouverte à la modernité et aux nouveautés tout en respectant la tradition. Fort d’une équipe de passionnés dont 15 membres du Conseil d’Administration, 3 permanents, 500 membres et de nombreux bénévoles, le Club organise de grandes épreuves dont les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, le Festival ArMeN, les Dames de Saint-Tropez, les Voiles d’automne ou la course au large en Mediterranée, la Paprec 600 Saint-Tropez et co-organise d’autres épreuves comme la Loro Piana Giraglia à Saint-Tropez. La SNST accueille notamment des événements exceptionnels comme différents championnats du monde ou d’Europe et depuis 2021 l’étape française de Sail GP, ainsi qu’une étape du 52 Super Series circuit des TP 52, The Nations Trophy avec le Club Swan Racing et une épreuve avec les Dragon pour le Trophée marblehead en 2025.
