The Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy
celebrates its 15th anniversary in Saint-Tropez
On Thursday, 1st October, the most beautiful centenarian yachts will gather in the bay of Saint-Tropez for the 15th edition of the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy. Held as part of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, this unique regatta has become, over the years, an unmissable event for yachts over one hundred years old. Created by the Gstaad Yacht Club and co-organised with the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, the Centenary Trophy has, for fifteen years, celebrated the elegance, maritime heritage and sporting spirit of classic sailing.
Before taking to the water, Swiss traditions will take centre stage. On Wednesday, 30 September, the Gstaad Yacht Club will open the festivities with the 4th edition of the « Swiss Night », held on the Place des Lices.
Centenarian yachts return for a truly unique regatta
Since its creation in 2011, the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy has held a special place in the programme of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Reserved for yachts over one hundred years old, the race shines a light on exceptional sailing yachts, true witnesses to the golden age of yacht design and craftsmanship.
The pursuit-race format is what makes the Centenary Trophy so distinctive. Starts are staggered according to each yacht’s rating, allowing the fleet, in theory, to come together in the final stages of the race. This spectacular and intense format gives crews the opportunity to sail in close contact with the entire fleet before a highly contested finish off Saint-Tropez, at the foot of the Tour du Portalet. The first yacht to cross the finish line wins the Centenary Trophy.
“Celebrating the 15th edition of the Centenary Trophy is a great source of pride for the Gstaad Yacht Club. For fifteen years, this unique regatta has kept the history of classic sailing alive by bringing together exceptional centenarian yachts and passionate crews in Saint-Tropez. This anniversary is also an opportunity to warmly thank the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez for its trust, hospitality and invaluable partnership, which allow the Centenary Trophy to continue writing its remarkable story,” said Daniel Heine, Sailing Officer of the Gstaad Yacht Club.
“The Centenary Trophy is a truly special regatta. It is a unique moment within Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. The pursuit format is very original: with our high rating, we start among the last boats and have to work our way back through the fleet. It allows us to sail alongside yachts we do not necessarily meet in other races and to admire them up close. Racing almost in real time is quite rare in classic sailing, and it adds a real sporting challenge. It is a magnificent regatta that we greatly enjoy,” said Hugues Boullenger, captain of Sumurun, the largest yacht in the fleet.
Swiss Night: Switzerland comes to Saint-Tropez
Before the sails are hoisted, it will be time for conviviality. On Wednesday, 30 September, the Gstaad Yacht Club will open the celebrations with the 4th edition of the Swiss Night, held on the Place des Lices. For one evening, Switzerland will take over the heart of Saint-Tropez, offering crews and their guests a taste of its traditions and way of life. The programme will include alpine specialities, a cow-milking contest and the unmissable ski race. A warm and festive atmosphere guaranteed.

Gstaad Yacht Club
The Gstaad Yacht Club was founded in 1998 by a group of passionate sailors with the mission to “create a unique global yacht club away from the water, rather than another local yacht club by the sea”. Located in the Swiss Alps and initially met with some surprise, the Gstaad Yacht Club has grown into a club of 400 members from more than 40 different countries and a place where members and their guests enjoy coming together. Its reciprocal club network now extends across all continents. The annual events calendar includes a wide variety of social, sporting and sailing events, organised by a dedicated team of three, together with ten volunteer members of the Board and Committee, who organise up to 90 event days each year.
The GYC supports sailing projects at every level, from juniors to professional sailors, and has become an important player in Swiss sailing, particularly in Olympic sailing and classic yachting.
Since 2011, topics relating to the protection of oceans and waters, as well as other sustainability and environmental well-being themes, have become an integral part of Club life, enriched by collaborations and events with figures and organisations such as Sylvia Earle, the Blue Marine Foundation, IUCN Ocean Ambassador William Winram and the Gstaad Cultural Encounters.
Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez
Founded in 1862, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez has been organising nautical events for more than 160 years. Some of its members have left an enduring mark, including Guy de Maupassant in 1887 and Paul Signac in 1897, President of the SNST from 1908 to 1911, who were among the pioneers of French yachting. Affiliated with the FFVoile and an allied club of the Yacht Club de France, the SNST has continued to grow with the guiding principle of remaining open to modernity and innovation while respecting tradition.
Supported by a passionate team, including 15 members of the Board of Directors, three permanent staff, 500 members and many volunteers, the Club organises major events such as Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, the Festival ArMeN, Les Dames de Saint-Tropez, Les Voiles d’Automne and the Mediterranean offshore race Paprec 600 Saint-Tropez. It also co-organises events such as the Loro Piana Giraglia in Saint-Tropez. The Club regularly hosts exceptional international events, including TP52, Swan and Dragon regattas, the French stage of SailGP and, in 2026, the Cape 31 World Championship.
The Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez was the challenger club for the French team in the 2024 America’s Cup and will again hold this role for the 2027 America’s Cup in Naples.

célèbre ses 15 ans à Saint-Tropez
Le jeudi 1er octobre prochain, les plus beaux yachts centenaires ont rendez-vous dans la rade de Saint-Tropez à l’occasion de la 15ème édition du Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy. Organisée dans le cadre des Voiles de Saint-Tropez, cette régate unique s’est imposée au fil des ans comme l’événement incontournable des yachts centenaires. Imaginé par le Gstaad Yacht Club et co-organisé avec la Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, le Centenary Trophy célèbre depuis quinze ans l’élégance, le patrimoine maritime et l’esprit sportif de la voile classique.
Avant de prendre la mer, place aux traditions suisses ! Le mercredi 30 septembre, le Gstaad Yacht Club donnera le coup d’envoi des festivités avec la 4ème édition de la « Swiss Night », organisée sur la place des Lices.
Les yachts centenaires de retour pour une régate unique au monde
Depuis sa création en 2011, le Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy occupe une place à part dans le programme des Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Réservée aux yachts âgés de plus de cent ans, cette épreuve met en lumière des voiliers d’exception, véritables témoins de l’âge d’or de la construction navale.
Le format de course, en poursuite « pursuit race », fait toute l’originalité du Centenary Trophy. Les départs sont échelonnés en fonction du rating de chaque bateau afin que tous puissent, en théorie, se retrouver à la lutte dans les derniers bords. Une formule aussi spectaculaire qu’intense, qui permet aux équipages de naviguer au contact de l’ensemble de la flotte avant une arrivée toujours très disputée devant Saint-Tropez, au pied de la Tour du Portalet. Le premier à franchir la ligne d’arrivée remporte le Centenary Trophy.
« Célébrer la 15e édition du Centenary Trophy est une immense fierté pour le Gstaad Yacht Club. Depuis quinze ans, cette régate unique fait vivre l’histoire de la voile classique en réunissant à Saint-Tropez des yachts centenaires d’exception et des équipages passionnés. Cet anniversaire est aussi l’occasion de remercier chaleureusement la Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez pour sa confiance, son accueil et son précieux partenariat, qui permettent au Centenary Trophy de continuer à écrire sa belle histoire », confie Daniel Heine, Gstaad Yacht Club Sailing Officer.
« Le Centenary Trophy est une régate vraiment à part. C’est une parenthèse au cœur des Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Le format en poursuite est très original : avec notre gros rating, nous partons parmi les derniers et devons remonter toute la flotte. Cela nous permet de naviguer aux côtés de bateaux que l’on ne croise pas forcément habituellement et de les admirer de près. Courir quasiment en temps réel est assez rare en voile classique, cela ajoute un vrai enjeu sportif. C’est une régate magnifique que nous apprécions énormément », indique Hugues Boullenger, capitaine de Sumurun, qui sera le plus grand bateau de la flotte.
La Swiss Night : la Suisse s’invite à Saint-Tropez
Avant de hisser les voiles, place à la convivialité ! Le mercredi 30 septembre, le Gstaad Yacht Club donnera le coup d’envoi des festivités avec la 4ème édition de la Swiss Night, organisée sur la place des Lices. Le temps d’une soirée, la Suisse prendra ses quartiers au cœur de Saint-Tropez pour faire découvrir aux équipages et à leurs invités ses traditions et son art de vivre. Au programme : dégustation de spécialités alpines, concours de traite de vaches, et l’incontournable course de ski. Ambiance chaleureuse garantie!

Gstaad Yacht Club
Le Gstaad Yacht Club a été fondé en 1998 par un groupe de marin passionné avec pour mission de « créer un yacht club unique et global loin de l’eau et non pas un autre yacht club local près de la mer ». Situé dans les Alpes suisses et souvent accueilli avec étonnement au départ, le Gstaad Yacht Club s’est transformé en un club comptant 400 membres originaires de plus de 40 pays différents et en un lieu où les membres et leurs invités aiment se retrouver. Le GYC soutient des projets de voile à tous les niveaux, des juniors aux marins professionnels, et est devenu un acteur incontournable de la voile suisse, en particulier de la voile olympique et du yachting classique.

La Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez
Fondée en 1862, la Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez organise des événements nautiques depuis plus de 160 ans. Certains de ses membres ont laissé une trace impérissable à l’image de Guy de Maupassant en 1887 et Paul Signac en 1897 (Président de la SNST de 1908 à 1911) qui font partie des pionniers de la plaisance française. Affiliée à la FFVoile et Club allié du Yacht Club de France, la SNST n’a cessé de s’agrandir avec comme leitmotiv de toujours être ouverte à la modernité et aux nouveautés tout en respectant la tradition. Fort d’une équipe de passionnés dont 15 membres du Conseil d’Administration, 3 permanents, 500 membres et de nombreux bénévoles, le Club organise de grandes épreuves dont les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, le Festival ArMeN, les Dames de Saint-Tropez, les Voiles d’automne ou la course au large en Mediterranée, la Paprec 600 Saint-Tropez et co-organise d’autres épreuves comme la Loro Piana Giraglia à Saint-Tropez. La Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez a été le club challenger de l’America’s cup 2024 pur l’équipe de France et le sera à nouveau pour l’America’s cup 2027 à Naples.
