Join us on Thursday, October 5th, 2023, in Saint-Tropez for the 12th edition of the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy. As tradition dictates during Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, on Challenge Day, the magnificent century-old yachts will come together for a truly unique regatta that is eagerly anticipated by all: the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy.
The Regatta of the Centenarians
Over the years, the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy has become the essential race for all crews sailing these magnificent century-old yachts. Its unique format of a Pursuit Race, where boats cross the starting line based on their rating and the first to cross the finish line is the winner, is highly appreciated by all owners who eagerly return year after year to participate in the Centenary Trophy. For these classic centenarian yachts, the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy is the highlight of this St. Tropez week.
Yves Laurent, owner of NIN, says, “I think I have been participating in the Centenary Trophy since its inception, and we always take part with great pleasure. The format is really nice, there’s nothing to complain about, I find it excellent, very enjoyable – we chase after the boat that started earlier. I think it’s very well done, very precise. Nin returns to the race for the greatest pleasure of the crew. I love this event, the reception is great, and I thank the Gstaad Yacht Club for having the excellent idea of this race.“
Daniel Heine, GYC Sailing Officer and owner of Silhouette “The GYC is thrilled to once again host the 12th Centenary Trophy in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez during Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Throughout the year, we have worked diligently with the SNST to establish a platform for racing these century-old beauties in the true spirit of seamanship and the convivial atmosphere of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. The regatta will once again follow the pursuit race format, and we are eagerly anticipating another thrilling finish like what we witnessed last year.
Continuing with the new addition to the Centenary Trophy event, we plan a Swiss evening and Aperitif for all sailors and friends of the Centenary sailing event and the Gstaad Yacht Club in the evening prior to the regatta day with a surprising Swiss element.“
A Unique Spectacle
Once again, and for the 12th year, the spectacle promises to be unique and magical for the Centenary Trophy. Over 25 competitors are expected to participate in this new edition. The defending champion, the 1898 gaff cutter Kismet, will be present to etch its name once again in the record books, alongside the triple winner, the Class P Olympian.

Editor’s notes:
The Gstaad Yacht Club, celebrating its 25th anniversary yesterday, was founded in 1998 by a group of passionate sailors with a mission to “create a unique and global yacht club away from the water, rather than another local yacht club by the sea.” Based in the Swiss Alps, the Gstaad Yacht Club boasts 400 members from over 30 different countries. Members and their guests enjoy gathering there.
The GYC supports sailing projects at all levels, from junior sailors to professionals. The club has become a strong force in the Swiss and international sailing scene, particularly in Olympic sailing and classic yachts.
The Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez
Dating back to 1862, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the world and possibly the second oldest in France. Sailors from all over the world have always enjoyed sailing and challenging each other in the idyllic Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
With over 500 members, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez organises or co-organises more than 15 sailing events every year, including the ARMEN Festival, Au Large de Saint-Tropez, the Coupe de l’Hippocampe, Les Dames de Saint-Tropez, the Bravades regatta, Les Voiles Latines à Saint-Tropez, the Rolex Giraglia, the Trophée Bailli de Suffren, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, Dragon Saint-Tropez, Les Voiles d’Automne… as well as activities dedicated to motor boats, such as fishing, other Club outings and special events.

Rendez-vous le jeudi 5 octobre 2023 à Saint-Tropez pour la 12ème édition du Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy. Comme le veut la tradition sur les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, lors de la journée des défis, les splendides yachts centenaires vont s’affronter pour une régate unique en son genre et que tous attendent avec impatience : le Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy.
La régate des centenaires
Au fil des ans, le Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy est devenu « La course » incontournable pour tous les équipages naviguant sur ces magnifiques yachts centenaires. Son format unique de « Poursuit Race » – les bateaux franchissent la ligne de départ en fonction de leur rating, le premier à franchir la ligne d’arrivée est le vainqueur – est très apprécié de tous les propriétaires qui reviennent tous les ans avec grand plaisir pour participer au Centenary Trophy. Pour les classiques centenaires, le Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy est le point d’orgue de cette semaine Tropézienne.

Le format est très très sympa, il n’y a rien à dire, je trouve cela excellent, c’est très agréable, on court après le bateau qui est parti plus tôt. Je trouve cela très bien, c’est précis. Nin revient sur la course pour le plus grand plaisir de l’équipage. J’adore, ce rendez-vous, l’accueil est parait et je remercie le Gstaad Yacht Club d’avoir eu l’excellente idée de cette course ».

Un spectacle unique
Une nouvelle fois et pour la 11ème année, le spectacle promet d’être unique et magique pour le Centenary Trophy. Plus de 25 concurrents sont attendus sur cette nouvelle édition. Le tenant du titre, le côtre aurique de 1898, Kismet sera bien présent pour écrire une nouvelle son nom au palmarès, tout comme le triple vainqueur le Class P Olympian.
