 Join us on Thursday, October 5^th, 2023, in Saint-Tropez for the 12^th edition of the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy. As tradition dictates during Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, on Challenge Day, the magnificent century-old yachts will come together for a truly unique regatta that is eagerly anticipated by all: the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy.

The Regatta of the Centenarians

Over the years, the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy has become the essential race for all crews sailing these magnificent century-old yachts. Its unique format of a Pursuit Race, where boats cross the starting line based on their rating and the first to cross the finish line is the winner, is highly appreciated by all owners who eagerly return year after year to participate in the Centenary Trophy. For these classic centenarian yachts, the Gstaad Yacht Club Centenary Trophy is the highlight of this St. Tropez week.

Yves Laurent, owner of NIN, says, “I think I have been participating in the Centenary Trophy since its inception, and we always take part with great pleasure. The format is really nice, there’s nothing to complain about, I find it excellent, very enjoyable – we chase after the boat that started earlier. I think it’s very well done, very precise. Nin returns to the race for the greatest pleasure of the crew. I love this event, the reception is great, and I thank the Gstaad Yacht Club for having the excellent idea of this race.“

Daniel Heine, GYC Sailing Officer and owner of Silhouette “The GYC is thrilled to once again host the 12^th Centenary Trophy in collaboration with the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez during Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Throughout the year, we have worked diligently with the SNST to establish a platform for racing these century-old beauties in the true spirit of seamanship and the convivial atmosphere of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. The regatta will once again follow the pursuit race format, and we are eagerly anticipating another thrilling finish like what we witnessed last year.

Continuing with the new addition to the Centenary Trophy event, we plan a Swiss evening and Aperitif for all sailors and friends of the Centenary sailing event and the Gstaad Yacht Club in the evening prior to the regatta day with a surprising Swiss element.“

A Unique Spectacle

Once again, and for the 12^th year, the spectacle promises to be unique and magical for the Centenary Trophy. Over 25 competitors are expected to participate in this new edition. The defending champion, the 1898 gaff cutter Kismet, will be present to etch its name once again in the record books, alongside the triple winner, the Class P Olympian.

2013: Due to unfavourable weather conditions, the race could not take place, and the trophy was not awarded.

The Gstaad Yacht Club, celebrating its 25th anniversary yesterday, was founded in 1998 by a group of passionate sailors with a mission to “create a unique and global yacht club away from the water, rather than another local yacht club by the sea.” Based in the Swiss Alps, the Gstaad Yacht Club boasts 400 members from over 30 different countries. Members and their guests enjoy gathering there.

The GYC supports sailing projects at all levels, from junior sailors to professionals. The club has become a strong force in the Swiss and international sailing scene, particularly in Olympic sailing and classic yachts.

 

The Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez

The Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez With over 600 members and organizing around fifteen events, including Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez is one of the oldest clubs in France, with origins dating back to 1862. Since 2015, the merger of the sailing clubs in Saint-Tropez has expanded horizons.
